"Nicholas Hobbs (b. 1747) was upon the Committee of Observation for Linganore Hundred. He married Elizabeth Cummings, daughter of General William Cummings, of Liberty;

issue, William Cummings Hobbs, and Brice Hobbs of Maryland, and Basil Nicholas Hobbs, of Kentucky. He later married Mary Ann Dorsey (of Edward and Susannah Lawrence);

issue, Edward Hobbs, father of Mrs. John Shirley of Kentucky, whose homestead was the "Anchorage."

There is also a chart which xeroxed badly but mentions something about a child of Basil Nicholas being "Mrs. McFarlane's parents". This person had several children, one of which was a "Dr. Shipley" and another a "____ Shipley" and another, Mrs. McFarlane. There were possibly three more children.

There is a note in Warfield's book that mentions that the wife of General William Cummings was Sarah Coppage. Now that I read further it seems that Georgia Hobbs Cissel quoted directly from Warfield.

Sorry I could not be more helpful. I'm following the children of Leonard Hobbs who married into my Norwood line.

Possible Hobbs who could have been Lucretia's father: from the 1790 Anne Arundel census

William (5 females)Henry (5 females)Len (6 females) Joseph (5 females)Noah (4 females)Beal (1 female) Thomas (5 females)Joseph (2 females)Leonard (6 females) John (6 females)

If you go by the naming conventions of the time, John is the most likely to be Lucretia's father, because she gave one of her children that name. Then again, Lucretia's brother in law was named John. Nothing helps!

I do have some info, but no documentation. I think most of this came from a Latter Day Saints family database. The good thing is, if this is her family, they were a very large and well-known family and the archives on this family seem to be extensive in Frederick County, Maryland. I would check with them, as they might be able to confirm documentation of her being their child. They also may know what churches they registered the family's births at.

Lucrecia Hobbs was born 1776 in Baltimore, MD. She married James Driver on May 3, 1792 in Baltimore.

Her parents were: Nicholas Hobbs, Esq. (born Feb 22, 1747 in Madison Cty, Kentucky – died Oct 17, 1793)

Her served as 2nd Lieutenant in Capt. Basil Dorsey’s company of Maryland Militia in 1776 and in General Johnson’s Brigade (see link below) http://www.emmitsburg.net/archive_list/articles/history_articles/rev_war/game_cock_unit_hisotry.htm

He married at least twice.

One of his wives was Elizabeth Cummings who he married in approx. 1768 in Frederick Cty, MD. He was also said to have married Susanna Simmerman on Jun 17, 1785 in Frederick Cty, MD. The Dorsey and Hobbs families intermarried in Kentucky and Maryland extensively.

The only children I know of that they had were: Basil Nicholas Hobbs (who married April 18, 1808 to Mary Ann (Polly) Dorsey) and Lucrecia.

Nicholas’s parents were:

John Hobbs, Jr. (1712-1768). His will was dated Sep 8, 1768 in Frederick Cty, MD.

Elizabeth Hammond (married approx 1733)

They had 12 children: Leonard, Charles, William, Joseph, Leonard, Greenbury, Charles, William, John, Nicholas, and Joshua. All were born in Kentucky, except Joseph, who was born in Maryland, although several died in Maryland.

John Hobbs Jr.’s parents were:

John Hobbs (b: approx. 1660 in Anne Arundel Cty, MD and died Aug of 1731. His will was dated Aug 3, 173)

Susannah Powell (he had at least a second wife, but unknown)

They had 5 children: William, John Jr., Samuel, Joseph, and Margaret.
