Nicholas was apparently a cripple, from what cause is unknown. He served in the militia in Montgomery County, Virginia. In 1788, he paid tithe on three horses; in 1790 paid tithe on 4 horses, February 19, 1796 shows he and brother Joseph in Land Grant at Walkers Creek, Wolf Creek, Lee County, Virginia.
They moved from Lee County, Virginia to Knox County, Kentucky before 1810 and then on to Edwards County, Illinois before 1822.
