    Note that only two sons were identified in his Will dated October 16, 1796.

    "In the name of god Amen. I Newday Owsley of Hancock County and State of Georgia, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and ordain this my last will and testament and first and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it, trusting thus the merits of our blessed redeemer Jesus Christ to receive pardon for all my sins; and as touching such worldly estate with which it has pleased God to bless me, I give & dispose of in manner and form following --

    First, it is my will and I do hereby give and bequeath to my loving wife Mary Ann all my stock and household furniture as also one negroe fellow by the name of Bob, one wench by the name of Gillay, one wench by the name Nan and one wench by the name of Cyntha as and during her natural life --

    Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Penny Connell one french crown and no more --

    Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my son William Owsley one french crown and no more --

    Fourthly, I give and bequeath my son Robert Owsley, Anna Owsley, Sarah Owsley and Chloe Owsley to be equally received between them, that is to say after the death of said wife, three feather beds and furniture, four negroes, that is to say one fellow called Bob, one wench called Cecilia, one wench called Nan and one wench called Cynthia, to them their heirs or assigns forever --

    Fifthly, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary Ann one negroe wench called Bott to her and her assigns at her absolute disposal --

    Sixthly and lastly, I do hereby appoint my two sons William Owsley and Robert Owsley my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other will or wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 16th October, ano dom 1796.
