    January 5, 1822.

    "Distressing Event- "On Saturday evening, 25th ult. Mr. Newdy G. Connell of this county, was burnt to death about a mile from Warrenton. He was on his way to Augusta with a wagon, and last observed sitting over a fire which he had prepared for the night, and is supposed to have fallen into it in a fit. When found, the flesh on one arm and on his body was burnt almost to a cinder. He continued in the most excruciating agony until Monday afternoon, when he expired."

Connell" was assessed tax of $3.43 3/4 on: 400 acres of 2nd quality land in Hancock County, adjacent to Beaver Dam Creek, adjoining property of Thomas Hudson, granted by Connell; 200 acres of 3rd quality land in Greene County, adjacent to Shoulder Bone Creek, adjoining property of Connell, granted by Connell; and 6 slaves.
