Reference an essay by Eleanor Marvin: "Nettie Mingus, daughter of Alex and Mary Mingus was born 11-9-1887. She married Albert August Pagels April 15, 1914. Albert was born 4-18-1883. Albert died 9-8-1959 at his home in Sherman Township Sturgis, Michigan. Nettie died 6-1-1973 in the Sturgis Hospital, Sturgis, Michigan. Both are buried in the Nottawa Cemetery, Nottawa Township, Centreville, Michigan. Nettie was a homemaker and she loved to play the piano and sing. She also crocheted, baked and each Spring planted a large garden. As a young man Albert operated a threshing machine and corn husker, doing custom work for neighbors and friends. His machines were powered by steam engine. For a number of years Albert worked at the Sturgis Grain Elevator until his health began to fail and the doctor advised him to find other employment. In 1923 Albert bought his farm in Sherman Township. Albert died at his farm home September 8, 1959.
