- ↑ "Nelson I. Williams, 50, Granville RFD 1, was killed instantly by aself-inflicted shotgun blast shortly before noon Sunday. Dr. George A.Gressle go to and documents, acting Licking County coroner, saidWilliams was shot once in the chest by a 12 gauge shotgun in thebasement of his home. Williams's wife, Elsie, told deputy sheriff HarryAllbritain that Williams went to the basement of the house shortly after10 AM. She said she heard a loud noise, like "a piece of coalbreaking," and became worried when he failed to return from thebasement. Mrs. Williams called the sheriff's office and Allbritain andDr. Gressle from the body.
Williams, employed in the custodial department of the DenisonUniversity, was reportedly despondent over ill health. Born March 9,1911, at Summit station, he was the son of David C. Williams and thelate Nettie Blanche [Gieseck] Williams. He was a lifelong resident ofLicking County. Surviving are his widow, Elsie M. [Dixon] Williams,whom he married in 1940; a son, Nelson Allen Williams, with the U.S.Marines, Parris Island, North Carolina; six daughters: Mrs. DaleHenderson of Lancaster, Mrs. Margret Baker and Mrs. Clarence Hummel ofNewark; Mrs. Dean Topping of Granville; Miss Irene and Miss Etta BelleWilliams of the home; five grandchildren; his father, of Union Station. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Morrow Crousefuneral home, Granville, and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. TheRev. William Stewart will conduct the service. Friends may call at thefuneral home after 12 noon Tuesday."
