[Alamance County_Feb 2006_backup.FTW] OBITUARY FROM BURLINGTON TIMES-NEWS: Nellie Gray “Nell” Mann Snyder BURLINGTON — Mrs.. Nellie Gray “Nell” Mann Snyder, 77, of 2714 W. Front St., D-3, died at 9:20 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2002, at Duke Medical Center after a critical illness of four days. A native of Burlington, she was the wife of Dr. Walstein Welch “Wally” Snyder, who survives, and the daughter of the late Coy M. Mann and Pearl Isley Mann. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was a Mary Kay consultant. She was a member of Elon Community Church (United Church of Christ), and served as a deacon and president of the Women’s Fellowship (Elon Community Church, UCC). She had a life membership in the Women’s Fellowship of Southern Conference. Mrs.. Snyder was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended Elon College. She was a member of the Board of Aldermen, Town of Elon College, for 20 years and served as treasurer and mayor pro-tem. She was a volunteer for 25 years with the Red Cross Blood Program, and the Elon University Alumni Association. She was very active in a supportive role during her husband’s 30-year tenure as chief executive officer of Elon Homes for Children, 1960 to 1990. She was a former president of Western High School PTA, a member of the Women’s Division of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce (past president, Board of Directors), the Women’s Golf Association of the Alamance Country Club, and the Senior Couples InterCity Organization (SCOI golf association). Mrs.. Snyder was an honorary member of the Alamance County Service League, and received the “Woman of the Year Award” presented by the Burlington Civitan Club in 1971, and received the Distinguished Service Award from Elon University. Survivors other than her husband of the home include three children, Mr. Wesley Snyder and wife, Donna, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Mrs.. Elia Ann Snyder Moser and husband, Larry, of Burlington, and Ms. Rita Snyder of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, Mrs.. Lori Snyder Aycock and husband, Trey, of Greensboro, Mr. Ryan Snyder of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Morgan Snyder and Mr. Andrew Snyder, both of Virginia Beach; Mrs.. Emily Moser Johnson and husband, D.J., of Burlington; and Mr. Neil Moser and Mr. Evan Moser, both of Burlington, and Ms. Julie Kenney of Greensboro; four brothers, Mr. William P. “Bill” Mann and wife, Shirley, of Burlington, Mr. Clinton Mann of Burlington, and Mr. Gerald Mann and wife, Peggy, and Mr. Ferald Mann and wife, Betty, all of Graham; three sisters, Mrs.. Margaret Mann Miles of Burlington, Mrs.. Sarah Mann Sizemore and husband, Bill, of Graham, and Mrs.. Marie Bowlin and husband, Scottie, of High Point; a sister-in-law, Mrs.. Charles (Peggie) Mann of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews, and also Barry and Becky Brasloff of Greensboro She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charles Mann. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Elon Community Church by the Rev. Judy Westman, pastor, and the Rev. J.C. Dollar of Sewickley, Pa. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and at other times at the residence.
