BIOGRAPHY: Descendants of Nathaniel Gunn and Esther Belden Volume I: Five Generations Compiled by Paul J. McCarthy January 2002 Page 1 Nathaniel (4) Gunn (Samuel 3, Nathaniel 2, Jasper 1), b. 20 Jul 1693, d. 29 Nov 1779, m. (1) 29 Dec 1720 Hannah Dickinson, d. 4 Nov 1721, (2) Esther Belden, b. 1697, dau. of Stephen Belden and Mary Wells, (3) Hannah ----, b. abt. 1720, d. 12 Feb 1783 ae, 73. Hannah Dickinson died thirteen days after the birth of a daughter. The baby died eleven days later, on 15 Nov 1721. Esther Belden's parents and siblings can be found in Ref. [93a]. Apparently, her death date is unknown. In any case, the compiler now has little confidence in the date given in his earlier book, which cannot be the date of Esther Belden's death if the conjecture in the next paragraph is true. It has been conjectured that Nathaniel Gunn's third wife was Hannah Wells, who was born at Colchester CT on 2 Jan 1709/10. She was the daughter of Ephraim Wells, a brother of Esther Belden's mother, Mary Wells (George Sheldon, Wells, NEHGR, v. 44, Apr 1890, 208-209), and so she was Esther Belden's first cousin. This Hannah Wells married a man whose surname was Gun (sic) in the First Congregational Church of Colchester on 24 Jan 1754, as recorded in the records of that church. |
