Facts and Events
From History of the Town of Warsaw, New York ... removed from Orwell to Warsaw in 1819, and settled in the southwest part of the town, where he resided until his death. These tombstones are in the Warsaw Village Pioneer Cemetery Scovell, Chloe 28 Nov 1842 Age 73y; wife of Nathan Scovell Scovell, Nathan, Jr. 23 Mar 1849 Age 77y Scovell, Seviah 5 Feb 1856 Age 77y; wife of Nathan Scovell His children were Harriet, Minerva, Linus, Miranda, and Orsamus. From djnein@@tznet.com In the 1790 census Thomas had 2 males under sixteen, and three besides himself over 16. and five females. If you check the children, this is too many NOT to include Hezekiah, Champion, and Ephraim. The obit [see below] wasn't written by Hezekiah, so it could contain errors. For one Thomas wasn't in VT in 1777. He was holding town meetings in his home in Lempster, Sullivan Co, NH. He moved just in time to make the 1790 census. So the children prob thought as he was from Orwell, that he was born there. Prob not so. There were four Nathans in NY at the same. MY Nathan m to Chloe Felt, a nephew who is burried in the Pioneer Cem at Warsaw next to Chloe, an Uncle and a cousin. When Chloe died, MY Nathan lived with dau Miranda m to Paul Belden, with dau Chloe Felt Belden, He is buried in Castile, Wy co, NY. His age at death is correct with his bapt date in Hadlyme, CT. You should prob look at land records, and write town historians to find more on Hez. They are very helpful. Also in 1790 VT. there were Abner, Daniel, Nathaniel, Abijah, Abner Jr, Matthew, and Samuel. Obit DIED On the 15th ult. at the residence of Mr. Paul Belden in Castile, Nathan Scovell, aged 79 years. For some years past the deceased resided in this town, where he leaves many friends cordially attached to him, for his integrity of character and warm and kindly sympathies. During quite a long period he endured severe pain from a cancer upon his face, which finally terminated his sufferings with his life. Many and oft are the times that his worthy sons have left their daily business to spend the hours at his bedside, and endeavored by the kindest offices to alleviate his grevious afflictions. The consciousness of having faithfully performed a noble duty is their abundant recompense. While we would not obtrude here, objectionably, the personal opinions or preferences of the deceased, we cannot, in justice to his memory omit to mention that it was his peculiar pride to be able to assert that he had ever, and uniformly, acted and voted with "the old Democratic Republican Party" of which few men could boast a longer, and none a more ardent, undeviating and faithful support. He died as he had lived, a firm believer in the truths of Christianity. IF THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS CORRECT, I HAVE NATHAN'S DATA WRONG, POSSIBLY CONFUSING HIM WITH "A NEPHEW". FURTHER QUERY HAS NOT TOLD ME WHO THE NEPHEW IS! References
