Information on Nathan Gilliland

Nathan Gilliland oldest son of Samuel and his wife, Elizabeth (Edminston) was born 1775 or 1776 in Greenbriar Co. W. VA. and died 5 November 1823, aged 47, in Logan Co. Ohio. He married in Greenbriar Co. W.VA. (then VA. 7 May 1800 Jane Edminston, who may have been a step-daughter Of his uncle, James Gilliland. James's 2nd wife was Jane(Smith) Edminston and she had several children by her 1st husband. Nathan's wife was born 1783. possibly in Greenbriar Co. and died 9 Mar. 1835. aged 52. They are both buried in Mt. Tabor cemetery, Salem Twp., Champaign CO. Ohio. which was across the county line from where they lived. Nathan and Jane removed from Va. in about 1810 to Pickaway Co. where his parents had moved a year or two before. They then moved to Logan Co. as did several of the others. The father Samuel, died in Pickaway Co. and Ellzabeth probably moved to one Of her childen's home in Logan Co. as she is also buried in Mt Tabor cemetery. We do not know too much about the family Or Nathan and Jane except what we glean from his Will. We do know some about his son Samuel Gilliland as he came to Cedar Co. Iowa. Also a sister Nancy came, Just when is unkown. A brother, Robert, may have come to Cedar Co. There was a son Hugh Gilliland who came to Cedar Co. but little is known Of him. He was there by the time the 1850 census was taken as he is shown in it.
