    MRS. CYRENUS SAWYER
    Funeral services for the late Mrs. Nancy Sawyer, widow of one of the earliest settlers of Lee Center, were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the Congregational church at that place, with interment at Woodside cemetery. Rev. Frederick Kempster conducting the services.
    Mrs. Sawyer died Monday, August 14, at Cushing, Iowa, where she had lived for a number of years with her daughter. The remains were accompanied from Cushing by Mrs. Lucinda Millen and Mrs. Nettie Ferry, daughter and granddaughter of the deceased, and reached Franklin Grove on an early morning train over the Northwestern.
    Nancy Shumway was a native of Spring Hill, PA, where she was born June 10, 1823. She was married July 28, 1842 to Cyrenus Sawyer and came with him to Lee Center whree he had settled several years previously. They lived on the homestead--now owned by H. M. Clink -- until after their fiftieth wedding anniversary, which was celebrated in 1892. Soon afterward they moved to Cushing, Iowa. Mr. Sawyer died about 15 years ago.
    Mrs. Sawyer was a highly respected member of the Congregational church at Lee Center and has always retained her membership there. She was the mother of four children. One daughter died in infancy and another, Mrs. Annette B. Salisbury, a few years ago. Cyrus W. Sawyer, the son, now lives in San Bernardino, Cal., and Mrs. Lucinda Millen in Cushing, Iowa.
