In the 1870 census for Lovejoy, Iroquois Co., Illinois, William 'Miskin' is 42, farmer from Ohio; with Emma 41 Ohio; Richard 18 OH; and Nancy 15 Ohio. {p. 2 / 363 roll 231 HeritageQuest}

 "On the 26th of December, 1877, our subject [Benjamin F. Shankland] was united in marriage in Lovejoy Township, Iroquois County, with Miss Nancy R. Miskimen, who was born in Bridgeville, Ohio, September 17, 1855, and is a daughter of William and Emma Miskimen. They have one child, Ken M., who was born in Watseka, Ill., March 7, 1879."
 Her brother Richard T. 'Miskimins' is listed in the 1880 census for Lovejoy, Iroquois Co., Illinois with his wife Celia (Anderson) and his mother Emma, a 52 year old widow from Ohio. {p.226a}   
 According to the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, Richard Miskimen married Cecilia Anderson in 1878 in Iroquois Co.  According to a WorldConnect database, Richard (1851-1935) and Cecelia (~1855-~1888) had a child William Anderson 1882. Richard married [his sister-in-law] Nellie Anderson (1865-1957) after 1885.
 "Iroquois County Democrat, March 13, 1941. WIFE OF BENJAMIN F. SHANKLAND. Mrs. Nancy Shankland Dies at Hospital Here. Mrs. Nancy M. Shankland, a resident of Watseka for many years, died at 12:45 Wednesday morning at the Iroquois Hospital after an illness of six months of complications of advanced age. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Segur Funeral Home with Rev. Janssen, pastor of the Watseka Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Shankland was born at Bridgeville, Ohio, a daughter of Wm. and Emma Taylor Miskemen. She came to Iroquois county with her parents at the age of 13 and had since resided in this county. She was married to Benjamin Shankland December 25, 1877. Mr. Shankland preceded her in death passing away in April 1917 at Watseka. Surviving are a son, Kendall M. Shankland, Chicago, grandchildren, Mrs. Leonard Burns, Nashville, Mich., Nancy and Walter, Chicago, and a great grandson, Leroy Burns, Nashville, Mich.
