NIX:A Short History David S. was the youngest born of Daniel (Granger) NIX and Elizabeth Ann HOLDEN. James H. Walker and Robert Curren in their book, "Those Gallant Men of the Twenty-Eighth Alabama Confederate Infanatry Regement" states that Daniel was "Discharged from Military Prison, Alton, Illinois May 24, 1865." His records goes on to say "Wishes transportation to Guntersville, Alabama on the Tennessee River." I suppose that he walked home from there. I am not sure when he got home, but their son David S. was born 16 June, 1866. David married Nancy J. McCLENDON on 9 Feb 1888, when he was 22 and she was 16. He died at the very young age of 32, which was unusual for males of the NIX family. During those ten years they had six children, all of which lived to produce families of their own. Nancy appears in the households of various children in the federal census (with Meade and Marcus Roberts 1920 and 1939) until she died on 5 Januaary 1944 at the age of 71. They are both buried at Moody's. There is a lot about this family that I have not yer uncovered, including the cause for his early death. 1930 Federal Census, Alabama, Etowah, Warrior, District 38, image 3o of 9, Residence 22 Family #25, ROBERTS, Marcus L, Head, O, yes, M, W, 45, M, 24, no, yes, Alabama, Alabama, Alabama, yes, Farmer, vvvv, yes, no, line 31. , Meade, Wife, F, W, 38.
