    Mrs. Garrard's mother was Elizabeth Payne, daughter of Edward Payne and Anne Horden Conyers, of Fairfax county, Va. She married Thomas Lewis, October 27th, 1773, and died March 24th, 1827.

    Mrs. Garrard was named for her grandmother, Anne Conyers Payne, but from some fancy she was always called Nancy, which name has been given to many of her descendants. She was born in Fairfax county, Va., August 18th, 1774. She was gentle and lovely in character, and her death on November 17th, 1835, left her home desolate. Gen.
