Nancy Cherry [C1a5e4g], daughter of Jeremiah Cherry and Mary Price, was born on24 November 1802 in Martin Co NC. She grew up in Columbia, TN, and married ThomasKeef there on 4 July 1829. Samuel Keef was the bondsman for the marriage. Thomas wasborn 20 September 1804. He and Nancy were attacked in their home on 10 November 1840by Rufus K Polk and George W Polk, who were prosecuted for this crime. Thomas may havebeen a carpenter because on 11 June 1832 William Cole, age 10, was bound to Thomas Keefto learn to be a carpenter(MauryCourt minutes, book 12, page 184). Thomas died on 24August 1856, and Nancy died 6 September 1871. They lived in Columbia in April 1852, sohe likely died there, although they were not found in the county on any census after theirmarriage. Both are buried in Greenwood Cemeteryonthenorthedge of Columbia. In the1860 census there was a woman named Elvira N Guest living with Nancy. Elvira was bornon 22 November 1822 in TN, so may have been a daughter from a prior marriage of Thomas(or an unidentified daughter of Nancy's sister Mary, who married Joshua Guest?).
