[edit] BirthMurphy Benoit, son of Michel Maran Benoit and Michel's second wife Marie Donathile Duhon, was born in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, on 25 October 1882. [edit] Physical CharacteristicsMurphy's draft registration card listed him as tall, with a medium build. He had blue eyes and dark hair. [edit] MarriageAt age 19, Murphy married 16-year-old Lucy Wing.S5 They raised three children, Robert (Robbie, Bob), Helen, and Murphy Donald. [edit] OccupationMurphy worked in different jobs throughout his lifetime. In 1910, a 28-year-old Murphy was working as a waterman.S2 In 1918, he listed his occupation on his draft registration as Mill Foreman for Ellis & Perry. In 1930, he was working as a laborer at a canal company.S5 When he retired, he was working as a school bus driver. [edit] Obituary![]() Obituary S6 Saturday, January 12, 1957. VINTON. Funeral services for Murphy Benoit, 74, will be held here at 2 p.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nelson Thistrump, with Rev. H. H. Howell, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Nibletts Bluff cemetery in charge of Burke funeral home of Vinton. Mr Benoit, who lived here with his daughter at 1120 Vincent Street, was born in Lake Charles and was a retired school bus driver. He died Friday morning of a heart attack. Survivors, in addition to his daughter, include one son, Robert Benoit of Vinton, six brothers, Eustis, Julian, Ramey and Preston Benoit, all of Vinton, Rayne Benoit of West Lake, and Willy [Willie] Benoit of Hackberry [should be Vinton]; four sisters, Mrs. James Parish of Vinton, Mrs. Ira Hadddock of New Iberia, Mrs. A.J. Sallier of Lake Charles, and Mrs. George Bedinger of Lovington, N.M.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
