Wade, Moses - entered service 1777 in Hanover County, Virginia, in Virginia Regiment & served at Battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Paulus Hook (where he received bayonet wound in thigh), & Yorktown; granted Pension abt. age 61 in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1819; surname also spelled Waide. F-S38456, R2466.

Returns Sept. 1, 1800, nothing paid out or taken in, and that the est remains in his hands and his mothers (not named) except the legacies paid Moses Wade, Elizabeth and Edward Oxford, as per receipts herewith, (not found).

    Georgia Wilkes County: Personally appeared before me Thomas Anderson a Justice of the Peace for said County Moses Wade and deposeth & saith that he enlisted in January 1777 as a regular soldier in the revolutionary war in the County of Hanover & State of Virginia under John Johnson Lieutenant in Captain John Winston's Company in the 14th Virginia Regiment in the Continental establishment commanded by Colonel Charles Lewis & that he fought in behalf of the United States at the Battle of Brandywine [September 11, 1777] and at Germantown [October 4, 1777[ and also at the place called Bargain Point or Powler hook [Paulus Hook August 19, 1779] there he deposeth he received a Bayonet wound in the thigh from the enemy and further that he was engaged in the Battle at Monmouth [June 28, 1778] and in the month of January 1780 was honorably discharged by Captain John Winston in Philadelphia and after returning home he performed for Tours of duty in the Militia one of them was at Little York at the taking of Lord Cornwallis and that he is now in very indigent circumstances and stands in need of the assistance of his Country. Sworn to this 17th day of February 1819.

Sworn to this 23rd of February 1819

    Georgia Wilkes County: Personally came before me Thomas Sanderson a Justice of the Peace for said County William Triplett Senior and made oath that he was acquainted with Moses Wade and knew him to serve in the 14th Virginia Regiment on the Continental establishment in the Revolutionary War of the United States. Sworn to this 18th day of February 1819

    District of On this 6th day of July 1819, before me, the subscriber, one of the Judges of the Inferior Court for the said district, personally appeared Moses Wade age 61 years, resident in Wilkes County in said district, who, being by me first duly sworn, according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress, entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States In the Revolutionary War:" he the said Moses Wade enlisted for the term of three years on the __day of January in the year 1777 in Hanover County in the State of Virginia in the company commanded by Captain John Winston of the Regiment commanded by Colonel Charles Lewis in the line of the State of Virginia on the Continental Establishment; that he continued to serve in the said Corps, or in the service of the United States, until the year 1780, when he was discharged from service in Philadelphia state of Pennsylvania, that he was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Powlers hook and at the last mentioned place received a wound in his thigh, and at Monmouth and that he is in reduced circumstances, and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services.

    Georgia Wilkes County: Personally came before me Rich'd Worsham3 and made oath that he was a Lieutenant in the 14th Virginia Regiment and Continental Establishment and that the said Moses Wade was a private in said Regiment and was attached to the Company of which I was a Lieutenant and the said Worsham further saith that he knew the said Moses Wade in 1777 which was attached to the same Regiment and that he did serve 9 months and that he further knew him and 1778 & 1779 in the same Regiment and believe he fought in the same actions already stated.
