- Due to archaic Eastern European Jewish naming conventions, and also variations in transliteration, there are many alternate spellings, indeed alternate names, for the individuals in this family. Example: Yosef, Joseph; Moses, Moische; Abraham, Avraham, Avram; Levinski, Lewinsky, Lewinski, Levin, Levinson, Levinsohn, and so on. This creates a fertile ground for duplicates as well as difficulties with conventional search functions. Care is required.
