I believe he was the son of Simpson W. Evans (1838-1919) and Mary Harding. "S.W. Evans, a well-to-do farmer of Bath County, Ky., was born in that county, April 19, 1838, and is a son of D.D. and Allie (Patrick) Evans. D.D. Evans, a native of Virginia, was an enterprising farmer who devoted the whole of his life to agricultural pursuits; he died October 21, 1882, having been a member of the Methodist Church for many years before his death. He was a son of Thomas Evans. S.W. Evans was reared on a farm in his native county and educated in the common schools. Like his father he has always engaged in farming and stock-trading. May 31, 1866, he married Miss Mary E. His wife Mary D. born June 1843 with 4 of 4 children living. His sons are Daniel D. 31 b. Sept 1868; Lewis W. 30 b. Jan 1870 -- both single -- and Morris 27 born May 1873, married 6 months; with his wife Minnie R. 21 b. Aug 1878 with 0 of 0 children living; and servants Isabel (Hill?) 14 black; Thomas Crockett 29; Molly Doyle 35 with Ida 7 -- all born Kentucky (parents same). {ed 3, sh 23b, p. 48} In the 1910 census for Bethel, Bath Co., Kentucky, 'Marce' Evans is 37, married once for 10 years, 'own store'. His wife Minnie R. is 32, married once, with 2 of 3 children living.
