Morgan Owen
d.27 Feb 1756 Wallkill, Orange, New York, United States
Family tree▼ Facts and Events
The parentage of Morgan is unknown, but the early Owens in Orange County New York came originally from Suffolk County on Long Island, in several cases passing through Westchester County. Morgan probably belongs to this family group. See descendants of George Owen, born 1650 in Bristol, England, who settled and died in Brookhaven, Suffolk County (on Long Island), New York. See also his (probable) brother, John Owen (b. 1624), who settled on the other side of Long Island Sound up the Connecticut River in Windsor. Possible parents are Johnathan Owen and Bethia Terry: http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Johnathan_Owen_%283%29 Morgan was shot and scalped by Indians on 27 February 1756 at Dolson's Farm, about 4 miles west of Goshen, Orange County, New York. This was during the French & Indian War (1754-1763). The Indians responsible were almost certainly the Minsis, the most warlike tribe of the Delaware Indians, a branch of the Iroquois. "He was shot and scalped by native Americans and his remains were identified by an unnamed son." See "History of the Indian Tribes of Hudson's River", by E. M Ruttenber, Albany NY 1872. |
