    COOP

    Mona Agans Coop was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Mystic, Iowa, to John and Henrietta Brenton Agans, and passed away June 27, 1990, at the Palmyra Medical Center in Albany, Ga., at the age of 81.

    After graduating from Hiteman High School, she attended Parsons College in Fairfield. She taught school briefly before marrying Walter Austin Coop. To this union two children were born, Shirley and Stanley.

    Mr. and Mrs. Coop farmed for many years in the Russell area and operated an insurance and real estate company in Russell. Mrs. Coop served as clerk for the city of Russell for 28 years before her retirement in 1982.

    She was active in many church and civic organizations. She was a member of the Russell Methodist Church, where she was secretary of the church board for many years.

    Mona was a traveler. Before Walter died, they had visited every state of the union and every province in Canada.

    She loved young people. She hosted foreign students on several occasions from France and Mexico. Mona also enjoyed poetry and quoted poems for every occasion.

    Shortly after her retirement she moved to Albany, Ga., to be near her daughter's family.

    She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Lawless, of Albany, Ga., and one son, Stanley Coop, of South Pasadena, Calif.; a brother, Gerald Agans; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 2, 1990, at the Russell Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry McAlpine officiating. Serving as bearers were Jim Andrews, Marvin Beaty, Roger Pierce, Ivan McCullough, Allan McCullough and James B. Reynolds.

    Interment was in the Russell Cemetery. Fielding Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
