Facts and Events
Moise Lillard and Lilli Balssa Moise one of Jasper Lillard's sons married Lilli Balssa. With the death of Jasper, Noise took over the ownership of the boat line along the Loire River. In 1598 King Henry IV gave equal rights to all those who practiced the Huguenot religion. However in 1685 Louis XIV revoked these rights, and all privileges and worship was forbidden to the Huguenots except in Alsace. Goods were confiscated and churches burned. All children were taken from their parents and instructed in the Roman Catholic faith. At this time Moise Lillard sold his vineyards and moved his family to Nantes. Noise and his wife wanted to stay in France and face the issues, he decided his elder son should stay with them. They decided however to send John Lillard and Benjamin Lillard to America. References
