Facts and Events
Miriam Philpot was baptised on 29th October 1820 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of Sarah and John Philpot, a shoemaker. The family lived in the hamlet of East Hyde, in the rural area to the south of the town. They later moved to the village of Breachwood Green in the parish of King's Walden, where Miriam had a son called John in 1839. The 1841 census find Miriam living with her parents and son at Breachwood Green.
On 4th May 1843, Miriam married George Marshall at King's Walden. They went on to have at least four more children together between 1844 and 1851. The 1851 census finds them living in Breachwood Green, with George working as a school master.
Miriam died in 1859, aged 38. George survived her by about 35 years and remarried in 1862.
