Facts and Events
Mrs. M. E. Mixon of Briscoe County (Post Office: Silveston, Texas) She testifies that she is the widow of Early C. Mixon who departed this life on the 9 April 1917 in Floyd County, Texas; she has not remarried. She was married to him 7 April 1881 in Montague Co., Texas. She was born 27 Dec 1854 and has lived in Texas since Dec 1858. She has lived at her present address for one year, currently Silverton, Texas. She says at the time of his enlistment, Early Charles Mixon lived at Sunset, Montague Co., TX, and that he served from 1861 to the close of war in 1865 in Co C, 19th Texas Cavalry, Gano's Brigade, C.S.A. She signed her name M. E. Mixon on the 23 Oct 1930. in Briscoe Co., TX On this above Civil War pension application of E. C.'s wife, M. E. Mixon, she says he died 9 Apr 1917. I have found the memorial to him (with picture!) at F-A-G Lockney Cem. The photo of the gravemarker shows d/o/d as 9 Apr 1918. So I'll assume the gravestone inscription has the correct year 1918, and that her memory of when he died was off a year. Even though she was living in 1930 in Briscoe County, she is recorded on the Texas Death Index as having died in Floyd County. 1860 Census Twp n/s, Johnson Co., Texas Post Office: Comanche Peak, Texas Jas. 'Mary' and sons are next hh to Cash and Mazie McDonald who were her father-in-law and his second wife. This 'Mary' is thought to be Millie E. Jackson. Helen Thompson Strange points us to the gravestone inscription for Joseph McDonald which says: Twenty years later, we find Millie with her second family: 1900 Census District 90, Justice Precinct 2, Haskell Co., Texas Mixon, E.
