Mildred L. Powers, 74, of Janesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. Mildred was born on Aug. 21, 1937, in Janesville, the daughter of Arthur and Stella (Breiby) Van Horn. She married Donald D. Powers on Feb. 6, 1957. Mildred attended Janesville schools and in 1980, she and her husband received their GED’s from Blackhawk Technical College, for which they were extremely proud of. Over the years, Mildred was employed by Panoramic Corp., Amphenol Controls, Dana Corp., Parker Pen Company and as a C.N.A. by Mercy Health System. She was a member of First Congregational Church U.C.C., Sweet Adelines, R.S.V.P., Mercy Volunteers making baby hats for newborns, Women of the Moose, Congregational U.C.C. Linus Club making quilts for newborns, a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader as well as a leader for the Blackhawk Voyagers Drum and Bugle Corps.
Surviving are six children: Jeff, Dean, Pam, Don, Dana, and Lisa; six grandchildren: Lee, Nate, Tiffany, Brittney, Chris, and Karissa; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Gabriella; and her brother, James (Gloria) Van Horn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on Sept. 24, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Toni.
Visitation will be from 2 until 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, with funeral services to follow at 3 p.m. Friday. Rev. Wes Bixby will officiate.
