    Mildred Elizabeth Phillips, 97, of Allentown, passed away on April 11, 2016 at Luther Crest, Allentown. Mildred was born in Macungie on September 26, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles and Ada (Fries) Lichtenwalner.

    Mildred was a twin and the youngest of five children growing up on Sunnyside Farm. She became adept at avoiding milking the cows. She was the wife of the late Warren Phillips and was married for 64 years at the time of Warren's death in 2011. Mildred graduated in 1935 from Emmaus High School and received her teaching degree from Kutztown College. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse for three years in Lancaster. Mildred returned to the Lehigh Valley to continue her teaching career. She was a substitute teacher for many local school districts while her children were young. Mrs. Phillips taught second grade at the Lower Macungie School and retired in 1982. Mildred was an active member of Christ E.C. (formerly Boulevard E.C.) Church. She was also involved with the Macungie Grange, 4H County Extension and women's groups. Mildred was active in her retirement years with gardening, housekeeping, shopping and travel. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and especially visiting with her grandchildren Zeke and Jen.
