[edit] ObituaryMildred Verleen Barnett, daughter of Funston and Viola (Call) Hawkins, was born Jan. 22,1921, in Leoti, Kans. She passed away Friday, Oct. I, 1993, at the Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kans., at the age of 72 years eight months and nine days. Her early childhood was spent in the Gem, Kans. area. She later moved with her family to a farm south of Rexford, Kans., in 1929. After the death of her father in 1936, Mildred, her mother and her brother moved into Rexford. On June 2, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage to Floyd Barnett in Rexford. They made their home in the Rexford community all of their married life, except for the two years that they resided in Colby. One son, Carl, was born to their union on Feb.•, 1952. They were also blessed with two grandchildren who were her greatest joy. Mildred enjoyed cooking at the school and helping her husband on the fann for many years. Their first fann home was located north of Rexford, and they later moved to a fann southeast of Rexford, where their son and his family now reside. She is survived by her son and his wife, Carl and Betty Barnett and their children, Jay and Jill; a brother and his wife, Alfred and Jean Hawkins; and a sister-in-law, Anna Barnett all of Rexford; nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Her husband, parents, brothers-inlaw, Harry and Raymond Barnett; and sister-in-law, Virda Barnett, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct.4, 1993, at 2 p.m. at the Rexford Community Church, Rexford, Kans., with Pastor Gary Taylor officiating. Intennent was in the Rexford Cemetery. Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin-Selden, Kans., was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions were addressed in her name.
