Mildred Hertsel, 93, South Whitley resident

Mildred Marie Hertsel, 93, of 108 N. Line St., South Whitley, died at 9:11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Whitley County Memorial Hospital. She had been hospitalized since Wednesday.

Mrs. Hertsel was born May 17, 1897, in Union Township, to Chauncey and Martha Gerad Graves. She was reared and educated in Union Township before moving with her family to Columbia City.

Following her marriage on Oct. 7, 1916, to Virgil L. Hertsel, she and Mr. Hertsel returned to Union Township for two years before moving to Troy Township. In 1920 they moved to Thorncreek Township for a year, then bought a farm in Washington Township. They operated the farm for 18 years until moving to Cleveland Township, then to South Whitley in 1948.

Mr. Hertsel died on March 10, 1968. She worked at Ruth Snyder's and Craig's Restaurant in South Whitley and was a member of the Collamer Church of God.

Surviving are a son Donald of Columbia City, grandchildren George Hertsel of Auburn, Larry Crawford of South Whitley, Galen Grawford of South Whitley, Gloria Chapman of Columbia City and Carole Cripe of Sidney. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter Genevieve Louis Crawford and a sister Hazel Anspauch are deceased.

The service was at 2 p.m. today at Demoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Juillerat of Huntington officiating. Burial was at South Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Hertsel is survived by a son Donald of Columbia City, three grandsons and two granddaughters.

Her husband Virgil and a daughter Genevieve Crawford are deceased.

Arrangements are being made at Demoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home.

Hertsel Service

The funeral for Mildred Hertsel, 93, was Monday at Demoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Juillerat officiating. Evelyn Stemen, organist, played "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Casket bearers were George Hertse, Larry Crawford, Galen Crawford, Dennis Cripe, Jim Chapman and Mike Cripe. Honorary casket bearers were Kent Hertsel, Kirk Hertsel, Jeff Chapman and Matt Crawford.

Interment was at South Park Cemetery.
