Facts and Events
Address: Address 1: Born at No. 129 Boy was born crippled due to his parents both having TB. When he was almost 13, his mother died in 1913. He went to live with his Aunt Elizabeth who had returned from America to see her sister one last time. She and her family took care of Michael. Her husband and two older daughters left in November of 1913 and she was left in total charge of Michael. He was very heavy and it became impossible for her to carry him. His Aunt Elizabeth heard of a place in Arad, the county seat, where they took children with his diabilities. She took him there. He didn't want to stay. His aunt went to visit him once a month. The only mode of transportation was wagon and it took her four hours one way. The boy begged her to take him home with her and not to leave him there. It was hard for his aunt to leave him there. She always felt the institution poisoned him because he gave them trouble by begging to be allowed to go home to Semlak. Elizabeth would always cry when telling the story -- even after decades had passed. References
