Nov. 5, 1772 from "Records of Onslow County, N.C. 1734-1850" by Gwynn. Deed Book I #75. ELISHA HEARNE to WILLIAM STOKES for 70 pounds on east side of NW branch of New River between ARTHUR MABSON'S and RICHARD FARR's lands at a place called CORMORANT HOLE, containing 250 acres which is part of 500 acres granted Oct. 3, 1748 to SEVEROUS GOULD and at his death divided to RUTH GOULD and MARY GOULD, coheirs. RUTH GOULD married MICHL. RUSSELL, who sold their one half to ELISHA HEARNE. Test. EDWARD HOWARD, THOMAS WEEKS, FERIBA HEARNE relinquished her dower right.

JLB Note: Resale of the land but provides more details

April 14, 1778 from "Records of Onslow County, N.C. 1734-1850" by Gwynn. Deed Book K. #59. SOUTHEY LITTLETON to his son, SOUTHEY, 200 acres at MICHAEL RUSSELL'S line. Tests: WILLIAM W. TAYLOR, THOMAS MORGAN.

JLB Note: Russells had not moved to SC by that time.

October 15, 1784 from "Records of Onslow County, N.C. 1734-1850" by Gwynn. Deed Book N (1785) #24 JAMES RUSSELL of Craven Co., S.C. to WILLIAM CRAY and JOHN FARR for 40 pounds tract of land of 115 acres at RICHD FARR'S line on Main Branch of New River, patented to SEVEROUS GOULD. Test. ENOCH GODFREY, WM. GODFREY.

JLb Note: This is a particularly interesting deed since it can be inferred that James Russell had already relocated to South Carolina by 1784 and secondly that he acquired property from Severous Gould. Did he and his brother, Michael marry the Gould sisters? The half of Severous Gould property that Michael and Ruth had been already sold. How did James get this property? Is this James the brother or son of Michael?

October 1813 date of recording of will of MICHAEL RUSSELL (the Elder) Apartment A Pkg 233 in Will Book 2 Page 870. Will dated 5th day of May 1810: MICHAEL RUSSELL, the elder of district of Darlington wife: ELIZABETH, eldest son: JAMES RUSSELL land I now live on lying in the fork of Beaver Dam containing 170 acres, Daughter SARAH COOK 100 acres between the Beaver Dam and Bear Branch, Daughter RUTH PITTMAN 150 acres of Land between Rear Branch and Hog Pen Branch, Daughter Elizabeth Cook 150 acres between High Hill Creek and Beaver Dam, Son JOHN RUSSELL the plantation adjoining the lane I now live on & ANDREW HUNTER & BENJAMIN COOK lands, Daughter JUNE HILL 100 acres on the head of Bear Branch adjoining PITTMANS & HUNTERS & BENJAMIN COOK land, Son JOB RUSSELL two negro men, one named Timothy and the other Juby. Exec; Sons JAMES RUSSELL and JOHN RUSSELL. MICHAEL RUSSELL (seal)Wit: ROBERT CAMPBELL, CHANNEY RICE and JAMES CAPELAND.

JLB Note: If we go with the concept that Michael, Sr., married Ruth Gould (strengthened by the fact that he had a daughter named Ruth) since he sold the property inherited from Severous Gould, then Elizabeth would be a second wife. Which children were by Ruth and which by Elizabeth is not know but it is assumed that the oldest son James and daughter Ruth were by Ruth Gould.

Dec. 1, 1780 - April 1, 1781 - 120 days of service under Col. J. Baxter in the P.G. Regiment in Marion's Brigade. SC Indent for 8# 12s 10 pence signed over to Amos Windham by Michael on October 12, 1791

November 7, 1785 Michael bought 350 acres for 88# 9s on SW side of Black Creek.

If Jane was born by that census then would support premise that Michael Sr. married Elizabeth after Ruth Gould died. Females listed in sequence per Will.

In 1810 apparently a son or daughter and their family moved in with Michael Sr. since wife is probably past child bearing age.
