The first record of Michael Minks is a 1777 Military record listing him as a Class 4 recruit in Captain John Compbell's Company of Cumberland County, pennsyvania. Tow later records are found dated August 22, 1780, in which Michael is listed as a Class 4 recruit in Captain William Strain's Company, 6th Battalion, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania Militia; and dated june 24, 1782, in which Michael is listed as a Class 4 recruit of the 2nd Company of the Cumberland County, Militia.

Land records also place Michael in Cumberland County as the same time as his father beginning with a record in Lurgan Township in 1780. He is in Southampton Township in 1786, Southampton was formed from Lurgen in 1783. Michael is listed on the Franklin County census in 1790 and on the Fayette County census in 1800. A property record dated January 4, 1802 places him in Georges Township in Fayette County where he remains for the rest of his life. Michael's last appearance on a census is 1830. He reportedly died about 1839.

Michael and margaret are listed as "original members of the Walnut Hill Methodist Episcopal Church" established in 1815 in Fayette County (Ellis, Franklin, History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches, L.H. Everts Co., 1882, p.578).
