A Butler County Pioneer Passes

Our Midst
Michael Kumler, a prominent farmer and pioneer of this county, died at his home near Millville last night of general debility aged 83 years. He was the twin brother of Jacob Kumler who died two years ago. They were born on the 11th of August, 1811, and the descendants of one of the largest and best known families in this county. Henry Kumler, the ancestor of the family was a bishop of the church of the United Brethren, He was born January 8, 1775, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and died January 8, 1854 in Hanover township. He was a man of great religious gifts and for more than half a century labored as the servant of the Lord. He was married September 7, 1797, to Susannah Wingart.
They had eleven children who grew to maturity, and one that was drowned in a spring when five years old. Hannah, the widow of the Rev. Jacob Fleckinger, born in 1798, lived in Seven Mile. Henry Kumler, born January 10, 1801, went to Dayton, O. He is an ex-bishop of the United Brethren, an office he held for twenty years. Susannah, the wife of John Zeller, born January 3, 1804, died in 1875. Elizabeth, the widow of the Rev. A. Hess, born July 3, 1805, lived in Brazil, Ind. David C., born September 30, 1807, lived in Seven Mile. Elias, born October 21, 1800, died in 1873. Jacob, died two years ago and Michael, subject of this obituary died last night.
Decedent removed to this county with his parents in 1819 and settled on the farm near Jacksonburg. On November 21, 1833, he was united in marriage to Nancy Beam and in 1834 took up his home on the farm on which he died. The aged widow and nine children survive, one having preceded him three years ago and who left a family of three children at Fergus Falls, Minn.; Mrs. C. R. Timberman, this county; Rev. J. A. Kumler, Springfield, Ill.; Martin Kumler, Millville; Mrs. Mary E. Ambrose, this county; Mrs. Susan A. Scott, Kumler, Ill.; Miss N. J. Kumler, this county; Cyrus A. Kumler, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; C. K. Kumler, Kumler, Ill.; Abram N. Kumler, Etiwanda, Cal. The funeral will take place from his late residence near Millville on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Huber, of Germantown, assisted by Rev. Kurtz, of Greenwood, officiating.
He married Nancy Beam 21 Nov 1833 in Montgomery, Hamilton, Ohio.
