Legend: Almost killed the other guy...had to flee Ireland to America
Per letter from Blanche Hogan (original in files of Dennis A. Hogan): Grandpa and Grandpa (Grandma) Hogan (Michael and Susan) lived on the Lindsay farm west or north west of Rushville (NY) then they moved to Middle Road south of Frank Arnold's lived there a while then moved here (Lake to Lake Road, Town of Gorham, Ontario Co., NY) Grandma passed away first. Grandpa lived alone for a while then mother and Dad (John and Mary) and family moved here that was the spring Margaret was born here then Albert. I wasn't yet when Grandpa passed away. They are both buried at Calvary (Canandaigua, Ontario Co, NY) on East side of Cemetery.
...
Mother and Dad (John and Mary) would get a talking about their folks and one would say your folks came from County Mayo and the other said your folks came from where the ducks went bare footed (probably County Cork) which one is which I don't know. Grandpa Hogan had a brother or Uncle that was a policeman in Ireland he was over six feet tall.

Since son John F Hogan was born in NY about 1854, Michael Hogan and Susan Nagle probably immigrated to the US before 1854. (Per 1870 Federal Census, Town of Gorham, Ontario Co, NY)
In 1860, P Hogan, age 10, born in NY lived with Michael & Susan & rest of their family. (Per 1860 Federal Census, Town of Gorham, Ontario Co, NY) Don't think he was their child, but don't know who he is.
