In the 1920 census he was a farmer in Keystone, Bayfield county Wisconsin who had immigrated to the US in 1904 and become a naturalized citizen in 1919. He could speak English and owned his farm with a mortgage.

The 1930 census said he came to the US in 1903. He owned his farm and a radio. He was 24 when he got married. His five youngest children were still at home. He could read and write English.
