Obit: Michael Freund, probably the oldest resident of this place, died early Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.B. Hoffman (Sophia), of east Oak and Fourth streets, at the age of more than ninety years. Mr. Freund was born in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria on April 23, 1814, and emigrated to America and located in western Pennsylvania when a young man. He worked on the old Pennsylvania canal several years under Captain Marshall and tiring of that employment went to Brady's Bend, Armstrong county, where he became an iron worker. His wife died in 1870 and four years later, Mr. Freund moved to this place with his family, where he resided until his death. Mr. Freund is survived by three children, as follows: Mrs. J.B. Hoffman and Frank Freund, of town, and Jacob Freund, of Independence, Mo. Mr. Freund was a devout Roman Catholic and was the oldest member of the local church. He never missed a service when the condition of his health allowed him to be present. His death was caused by brain trouble, from which he had been ill a month. Funeral services were held in the St. Bernard church at 9 o'clock this morning and interment followed in the church cemetery. THE INDIANA PROGRESS 3 AUG 1904
