Reference Boren-Reagor Springs Cemetery Michael and his 1st wife, Bettie Morrow lived in Austin County as early as 1829. He was a hero in the fight for Texas i ndependence. He served as a colonel under Sam Houston, for which he recieved 320 acres of land for his service. His wif e Bettie and their three children were involved in the Runaway Scrape after the fall of the Alamo, before the Battle of San Jacinto. Bettie died after her son, Albert, was born. Michael married his second wife, Mary Ann, and had nine children. His third wife was Mary Eliza Cooke, sister of Henry L Cooke. He was 53 and Mary E. was 36.

Michael Boren and Riley Boren donated the land for this cemetery in the early 1830's. There are 154 burials in the ceme tery from 1851 until 1951. Prior to the arrival of the white settlers, Ellis county was occupied by Tonkawa Indians , a peaceful tribe. Reagor Springs is located midway between Ennis and Waxhachie. In 1847, the Borens came to Ellis County (previously called Navarro County). Mustang creek was named for the large herds of Mustangs in the area. Waxahachie is the Indian name for cow.

BOREN, Michael Michael Boren Sr. was born 10 March 1806, Warren County, Kentucky and died 11 July 1875 in Reagor Springs, Texas. He i s buried there in the Boren Cemetery. Michael Boren and Riley Boren donated the land for the Boren Cemetery at Reagor Springs, Ellis Co., TX. Most of the burials occurred during the later 1800's-early 1900's. There are 154 burials in the cemetery, which were recorded. Mr. & Mrs. A. L. Feltenberger did the last transcribed listing of the cemetery on October 4, 1956. The earliest burial was in 1851 and the last burial was 1951. Michael operated a ferry across the Brazos R iver between Burleson and Brazos counties at the crossing of the Old San Antonio Road until 1849 when he sold it to Daniel MOSELEY. MOSELEY'S Ferry operated until 1868 & is mentioned in the Handbook of Texas. Michael and his first wife Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Morrow lived in Austin County, Texas near old Washington-on-the-Brazos as early as 1829. He was a hero in the fight for Texas Independence. He served as a colonel under Sam Houston in Sterling W. Robertson's Co. , Army of the Republic of Texas and was discharged, receiving 320 acres of land for his service. His wife, Bettie, an d their 3 children were involved in The Runaway Scrape after the fall of the Alamo and before the Battle of San Jacinto . Bettie died in 1837 after her son Albert was born and is buried in Burleson County, TX. Michael married his second wife, Mary Ann RIDGEWAY and had 9 children. They moved to Ellis County in 1847 and settled 2 miles east of Reagor Springs , Texas. At that time Reagor Springs was in Navarro County. Michael hauled lumber and groceries with oxen from Shreveport, Louisiana to Reagor Springs, Texas. Most of his children settled in the area. The inscription on his tombstone read s: "Here lies a Texas Veteran & Christain".. Michael married his third wife, Mary Eliza COOKE, sister of Henry L. COOKE . Michael and Mary were married after June 1860. Their daughter Anna was born in 1861. He was 53 at the time of the marriage and Mary was 36. Michael Boren's will was recorded April 11, 1876 in Ellis Co., Texas. His heirs were listed as : wife-Mary E., children: William H., G.R. (George Riley), heirs of daughter Rhoda, deceased, Alvarena Hancock, Joseph R. Boren, Pickney S. Boren, Nancy Cooke, Mary Harris, Michael Boren Jr., Willie N. Boren, and Anna H. Boren. Michael's application for pension for service during the Texas Revolution from Mexico: State of Texas County of Ellis Before me the undersigned authority this day personally came and appeared Michael Boren who is well known to me to be an old and respectable Citizen of Ellis County and after being duly sworn makes the following statement©.. My age is sixty eight years born in Kentucky immigrated to Texas in 1824 served in (can't read) Sterling G. Robertson's company in the year 1836. Received bounty of three 320 acres (can't read) in Ellis County Texas a nd my PO is now at Ennis near my residence in Ellis County. The names of the witnesses whom I am (can't read) this by a re G.
