Micajah Merriman (1788 - 1827)

"Micaiah, the fifth son of William the second, married Anna McCoy; they were the parents of seven children, Ruth, Hannah, Rachel, Eleanor, Maria, Elizabeth and Micaiah. Micaiah died in 1827, his was the first death in his father's family. Ruth married Jacob Souers; they are the parents of five children, Elizabeth Ann, Micaiah, Mary Ellenor, Sarah Rebecca and Xantha. Elizabeth Ann married Jonathan Whitelock, of Huntington county, Indiana, and they are the parents of one son, Judge O.W.Whitelock, of Huntington. Judge Whitelock married Miss Jennie Maud Nottingham. They are parents of four children, Wilfred J., Mary Etta, Clarence J., and Charles N. Micaiah married Margaret L. Rittenhouse. To this union there is nine children living, Mary Levona, Icelona, John E., Viola, Jacob M., James, Ella, Ann and Gertie. Mary Elleanor married Benjamin Funderberg, and is the mother of four children, Rosa, Edward, Lillie and Elizabeth.

Sarah Rebecca married Lewis McClurg; they are the parents of three children, Emma, Benjamin and Meridith. Xantha M., married Francis M. King. She is the mother of two children, Dr. Otto U., and Emmitt O. Hannah, the second daughter, married Reason Souers. She was the mother of five children, Levi, Lewis, Henry Martin, Anna and Margaret E. The last named died in youth. Levi married Louisa Rittenhouse. They are parents of five children living. Can't get their names. Lewis married Eveline Johnson. They are the parents of four children living, Benton, Netta, Thomas, and Jefferson. Henry Martin married Tressie McFadden. They are the parents of one son, a Lawyer, somewhere in Missouri. Anna married Uriah Herron. She is the mother of four children, Charles, Levi, Fred and the youngest name not known. Rachel married Jeremiah Merriman; from this union there is a son living, Martin B. Merriman, of Washington township, Whitley county, Indiana, in 1845, where they purchased wild land and settled upon it. She was left a widow shortly after settling in Indiana, and was afterwards married to Isaac Shinneman, of Columbia City, Indiana. From this union there are three children living, David L., John F., and Ratie. David L., married Charlene Davis; they are parents of four children, Claud, Percy, Laura and Harry. John F., has his second wife. He and David L., are residents of Columbia City, Indiana. Ratie married Mr. Clark, of Hampton, Iowa, and lives in that city. She has one son, called John. Eleanor married Martin Bethcal, now a resident of Washington township, Whitley county, Indiana. She died of consumption, in early life, leaving three daughters, Melissa, Anna and Mary Ellen. Melissa married Huggintubler; she died of consumption shortly after her marriage. Anna married David First and is a resident of Huntington, Indiana. Mary Ellen married M.S.Tracy; to this union there is one son living, named Alva; she now lives in Arizona. Maria married Bezeleel Tracy; they were pioneers of Whitley county, and now residents of Huntington, Indiana. Elizabeth married Elias Numbers; to this union was born Samantha, who married Thomas Thompson, Tobias Numbers, Enos Numbers, Anna who married Elijah Johnson and Ida who married Jacob Sharp. Samantha and Enos live at Mt. Eaton, Ohio, Tobias at Canton, Ohio. The others live in Ohio. Elizabeth Numbers died many years ago in Huntington county, Indiana. Micaiah married Martha Hixon, they are the parents of eight sons. Hixon Newton A., Wayland, Jacob, James D., Orlando, George and Bezeleel. Orlando and George died in early madhood. Hixon is a resident of Marion, Indiana. He has a son, Eugene, who is superintendant of the public schools of east Chicago. Newton A. owns and occupies his fathers farm, near Majenica, Huntington county, Indiana. Wayland owns and occupies a farm adjoining Majenica, Indiana. Jacob is a resident of North Webster, Indiana. James D., is a resident of Texas. Bezeleel is a resident of Barbers Mills, Wells county, Ind. Micaiah and his wife are deceased. Micaiah Merriman, the fifth son of William the second, died in 1827; his was the first death in his father's family."
