Facts and Events
Notes from the FTM site of Frances Pruett Limozaine: "He came over on the ship "Caledonia" with his parents and three of his sibblings, Mary,George, and John . The ship manifest indicates they came from Belfast, but were British subject. Michael and his sibblings tried to claim ownership in land of their uncle Stephen in S.C. which they thought should have gone to their father Samuel, (S.C. Law Library, p.343 continuing, Court of Appeals at Columbia S.C. May term 1854.) The court ruled against them. Apparently Michael traveled to Tennessee with his uncle, Wilson Reiney (who's wife Jeanie Keenan) had died) In the 1840 Census of Gibson Co., Michael Keenan is living in the household of Wilson Reiney. He was naturalized in S.C.(records extant) Jeanie Keenan was a sister to Samuel Keenan, father of Michael. Michael Keenan was appointed to serve in the Home Guard (Minute Men) during the Civil War. He collected a tax or levy to assist in supporting fmailies of men leaving to fight in the War. Information dated 12 January 1962 by Mrs. Annie Lou Keenan Hamilton, widow of Dwight Hamilton. "These are my dad's and Jess Pruett's grandmother's sisters and brothers" She lists the names and dates of birth of all 11 of the children; also noted: "Michael Keenan and Permelia S. Hamilton were married 18 June 1845; these were my grandmother and granddad. This must be the Hamilton connection. Michael Keenan died 13 May 1864. Permelia S. Hamilton Keenan died 8 May 1871." " |
