Mrs.. Mertie W. Foster BURLINGTON — Mrs.. Mertie West Foster, 92, of 2709 Elder-mont St., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home after three months of failing health. A native of Cumberland Coun-ty, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charles Linwood “Woody” Foster and the daughter of Mr. William Troy West and Mrs.. Hattie Faircloth West, both deceased. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.. Dolly Foster Shaw of the home; a son, Mr. Charles L. Foster Jr.. of LaGrange, Ga.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Bertha Davis, Ms. Julia Fryar and Ms. Ethel West; and two brothers, Mr. Harvey West and Mr. Lacy West. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Michael Hobbs, pastor of Davis Street United Methodist Church, and Dr. Lily Chou, assistant pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burling-ton from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter.
