Melvin R. Smith, resided in Hope Twp., Barry Co., Michigan. In 1883, Melvin sold his home in Hope and moved to Stanton, Montcalm Co., Michigan and lived near his sister, Mary Alice Cummings. During his later years, Melvin returned to Hope where he died in 1913. He is buried in Cedar Creek Cemetery. Melvin's home in Hope Twp., was located in Shultz, south of Tillotson Lake, on Shultz Rd.
