Melvin Ellsworth Longnaker, a native of Lamartine, Salem Township, Clarion County, and a former citizen of Clarion for some years, passed away at his home in Wilkinsburg, Pa., Saturday, July 6, 1929.
Mr. Longnaker was the son of Solomon and Margaret Longnaker and was born 68 years ago at Lamartine.
After leaving his home in young manhood he came to Clarion. He was employed by the Clarion Hardware Vo., when Wilson, Greenland, Klahr and company owned and conducted the business in the room now occupied by Fred D. Hays. Along about 32 or 33 years ago he accepted a position with the Westinghouse Company, and moved to Wilkinsburg where he established his home. He wore and was proud of a veteran button of the Westinghouse Co., which represented thirty-two years of continuous service.
Mr. Longnaker was united in marriage with Miss Anna Page, daughter of the late A. K. Page, who now survives to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted husband. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. D. Heath, of Upper Montclair, New Jersey, and by one sister, Miss Ella Longnaker of Lamartine.
Mr. Longnaker was a devout Christian man. After moving to Wilkinsburg he became a charter member of the Second Presbyterian Church of that place and held a prominent place in all of its work and government.
Funeral services were held at his late home in Wilkinsburg last Monday evening. On Tuesday the body was brought to Clarion and taken to the home of Mrs. James M. Page, at which place his home pastor, the Rev. Dr. Hugh Leith, conducted further services and the interment was made in the Clarion cemetery. The funeral party accompanying the body was composed of Mrs. Longnaker; Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Rowley and daughter Miss Abigail and Miss Mary Rowley of Chester, W. Va.; Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Heath of Upper Montclair, N. J.; Chas. Page and wife of Wilkinsburg; Mrs. John Cyphert of Turtle Creek and Rev. Dr. Hugh Leith, of Wilkinsburg.
