35. MELINDA SMITH was the daughter of Isaac Smith, Sr. and Margaret Rucker. She never married.
Melinda received the gift of one slave girl "in consideration of natural love and affection" from her uncle, Benjamin Smith (#18) on May 25, 1793. (Madison County Deed Book 1, page 176) She purchased 100 acres of land from Thomas Standley, her brother-in-law and wife Susannah Smith (#40), on November 14, 1794. (Madison County Deed Book 1, pages 174-175) She deeded this property back to her sister on January 14, 1801. (Madison County Deed Book 2, pages 505-506)
Melinda died in 1802. Among the purchasers of her estate were Elijah Underwood [husband of Mary Smith (#36)], Sally Rucker (#49), Benjamin Fleshman (#42), Downin Smith (#39 or possibly #74), Elizabeth (Smith) Rucker (#32), Isaac Smith, Jr. (#52), Asa Smith (#75) and William Rucker [husband of Elizabeth Smith (#32)].
