Mrs. May Hill Scott Dies at Age of 84
Funeral services for Mrs. May Hill Scott, member of a long prominent Houston family, and widow of the late Walter E Scott, were conducted from the family residence here Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
The Rev. W A Robinson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Robert F Clayman, Presbyterian pastor, officiated.
Interment was in the Houston Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were: Hosea Abernethy, Bertram Hill, Jim Hugh Tabb, D A Evans, Fred Dulaney, Dr. John D Dyer, Loss Lowery, Featherston Tabb, Bertram Moore, Jim Alexander, and Turner Ray.
Mrs. Scott had been in invalid for the past two and one-half years. She died Friday, June 5, at 2:15 am, at her home. She was 84.
Born in 1874
She was born in Houston on Dec. 4, 1874, the daughter of the pioneer citizens, the late William L and Mary Hill.
At the age of 12, she joined the Houston Baptist Church, and had an unbroken membership record, and was active until ill health prevented her attendance.
Most of her life was spent in the home in which she died. She was the last of her immediate family.
She and her late husband, Walter E Scott, Sr., were married for 56 years. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her three children, Mrs. Mary Scott Hale, Walter E Scott, Jr., and William Hill Scott.
Mrs. Scott is survived by four grandchildren, Robert Hill Scott, Betty Scott, Mary Ann Scott, and Nancy Hood Scott, all of Houston; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. W E Scott, Jr., and Mrs. Tom Davis, both of Houston; a niece, Mrs. Mary Thornton Hickman of Houston; and a nephew, Boyce Thornton of Senatobia, Miss.
