    Services Today for Mrs. Thornton

    Services for Mrs. Mattie Hill Thornton, who celebrated her 82nd birthday on July 26, and who died at her home here Wednesday morning after a long illness, will be held from her home Thursday afternoon at 4:30 in the afternoon.

    Her pastor, the Rev. Bill Watson, assisted by the Rev. Hubert Collins of Mantee, will have charge of the services. Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Interment will be in Houston Cemetery.

    She was born in Houston, the daughter of William L and Mary Hill, pioneer settlers of this county, and lived here all her life, with the exception of a few years spent with her husband, the late E E Thornton, during his pastorates of Baptist Churches at Booneville, New Albany, Lexington, Durant and Houston.

    She was an active and interested member of the Houston First Baptist Church, and until her illness, took active parts in all phases of her church, especially the Women's Missionary Union. She was the eldest member of the Houston Baptist Church in years of membership.

    She leaves her daughter, Mrs. Mary Thornton Hickman, of Houston, one son, Boyce Thornton of Senatobia and one sister, Mrs. Walter E Scott, Sr., of Houston.
