Maxine H. Hughes

 Maxine H. Hughes, 80, 166 Old Rock Quarry Road, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
 Mrs. Hughes was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Julie Hopson Markland and Kyle Markland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Hughes, July 21, 1994, and three brothers, Don Markland, Bill Markland and Gene Markland.
 Mrs. Markland was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church and a former employee of Pharmaseal. She was a Cloudland High School graduate and a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens.
 Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shirley Hughes and Jim and Betty Hughes, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Patricia Morgan, Johnson City, and Marie Birchfield, Elizabethton; a brother, R.J. Markland, Roan Mountain; and three grandchildren, Teri, Jimmy and Michael Hughes, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 HUGHES -- Funeral services for Maxine H. Hughes, 80, 166 Old Rock Quarry Road, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Gwyn and the Rev. Ronald Stevens officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at Moreland Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Mike Hughes, Kyle Birchfield, Ronald Markland, Jeff Morgan, Roger Morgan, R.L. Miller and Wayne Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be members of St. John Free Will Baptist Church, members of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens and Joe Berry. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m. Sunday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel. Friends may also call at the residence, 166 Old Rock Quarry Road, Roan Mountain, at any time.
