He graduated from Northwood, Iowa, High School in 1939. He was a trombonist for the high school band for five years. He was inducted into the U. S. Army June 21, 1942. Stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; Chanute Field, Ill.; Cadet training at Penn State college; Preflight training at Kessler Field, Biloxi, Miss.; Received his wings as bombardier at Carlsbad, N. M. Aug 1, 1945. Released Oct 1, 1945. Rank 2nd Lieutenant. He was a Supervisor at Bordon's, Mason City, Iowa.
