He was in a perpetual conflict with the new wife of his father. He left home around the age of eleven to 12 years old in St-Faustin, Québec, Canada. He saw his sister Mabel on the train platform in St Faustin and after that he followed the train track until Ste Adèle, Québec, Canada. Two weeks after he was arrested by the provincial police and with a policeman he returned to St Faustin and his family has left. He was given to many families before the age of 13: Family C. Campbell Nantel Lake, William Scott Milles Island city of Gore 2-3 years, Alexis Locas 2 years,1901 until his wedding in 1910 Paul Deschambault family. He was baptism in catholique religion in St Jérôme june 5th 1901 with the frenchified name of Maurice Durand (Maurice Doran alias Maurice Durand). He maried Albertina Millette in 1910 he had 13 children: Henri, Paul, Germaine, Léo, Jean, Jules, Rollande, Madeleine, Rosiane and Roger. Died at birth Noella, Aimé and Imelda. He died in St Jérôme in 1960. The Brandon Mail, 2 avril 1896, Page 7, Document Ar00708 THE POOR BOY Fatal Ending of an Overland Journey-Sydney Durrant’s Leg Amputated Sydney Durrant a 15 year old boy was brought into the city on No. 1 express terribly mutilated condition and taken to the general hospital where he now lies hovering between life and death. He was very much bruised about the face and the left arm and left leg had each sustained a compound fracture. After thoroughly diagnosing the case the physicians found it necessary to amputate the leg. The story is rather a sad one. Young Durrant left his home near St. Jovite (Saint Faustin Rang 14 lot 9) near Ottawa in company with his 19 year old brother Frank (Frank Victor), with a view of walking to Whitewood. N. W. T. where they have a brother (Percy William) and sister (Nellie = Clara Ellen Laverna) and uncle residing. By stealing ride occasionally they reached near Barclay. Here the younger of the two jumped moving from a moving box car, stuck the side of a snow drift and rolled underneath the train, sustaining the terrible injuries which will probably cost him his life, although Dr Lawrence says there is yet a chance of recovery.
