Obituary - Maude Vernin Suit Woolery (Garden County News, Oshkosh, Nebraska, Vol. 11 (No. 30), Febr. 20, 1920 ).
"Worthy Woman and Pioneer Resident Dead. Wife of Co. Commissioner Woolery Dies at North Platte Sunday -- Was Resident of County 30 Years.
Monday morning the news of the death of Mrs. J. R. Woolery, wife of County Commissioner Woolery, was a distinct shock to the citizens of this community. Although she has been ill for some time it was the common report that she was improving right along and for this reason the news of her demise at North Platte Sunday afternoon came like a bolt of lightning from a clear sky.
The deceased lady was taken to the hospital the fore part of November last, in a most serious condition and at that time all hope of her ever being able to survive the sickness was abandoned. However, after a few weeks she rallied somewhat and it was thought that she had a chance to regain a good share of her usual health. She continued to improve until just a few days before she died, the news of her death being a much greater shock to the public owing to her reported improvement.
Maude Vernin Suit Woolery was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dec. 17, 1877, and died at North Platte, Neb., Feb. 15, 1920, being age 43 years, 1 month and 29 days.
At the age of 12 years the deceased came to Oshkosh, Neb., with her parents in 1889. She was married to Joseph Richard Woolery on May 26, 1895 and resided on a ranch 11 miles west of Oshkosh until one year ago last September when she moved to Oshkosh to send the children to high school. To these worthy people have been born three children, those surviving with the husband to mourn the loss of a splendid wife and mother being Joseph Percy, Mildred Verna and Cecil Gwendoleen. Other near relative surviving her are her mother, three brothers and three sisters.
The deceased was born on Sunday and married on Sunday. All the children were born on Sunday and she died on Sunday.
The remains were brought to Oshkosh Monday morning and the funeral service was held from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, and was marked by the attendance of a large number of pioneer residents who gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased lady who was a friend to all. Interment was made in the Oshkosh cemetery, the burial service being in charge of the Royal Neighbors Lodge of which the deceased was a member.
The community regrets her death sincerely and sympathizes with the bereaved ones in their loss. She was a woman of many excellent qualities, a faithful and devoted wife, a loving mother and a true friend.".
