(II) Matthew, son of Robert Taylor, was born and reared on the extensive Taylor homestead in Mifflin county, Pennsylvania. He was educated in the common schools, at that time held in log houses. He also farmed on the homestead. He was a soldier of the revolution, and again offered his services to his country in the war of 1812.
