Will of Matthew Patton
- In the name of God amen, I Mathew Patton of the county of Jefferson in the State of Indiana, being weak in body but of Sound mind and memory possessing my common Judgmetns do make and ordain this my last will and Testament int he folllowing manner, viz:
- First of all I order t hat all my just debts and funeral expences shall be paid out of my personal estate and as to the rest of estate real and perosnal o (can't read) which I may die possessed I give, devised and bequeath in the following viz: I allow my beloved wife Jane to live in the peaciable possession and enjoyment of the plantation on whihc we now live together with son James Patton so long as my said wife Jane shall live and then Secondly I give unto my Son-in-Law Robery Ray or Ripley County Eighty Acres of land lying in the neighborhood where said Ray now lives.
- 3rd: I give and bequeath to my Soon Oughtby Huston Patton one quarter section adjoining to George Waggoner int he above said County of Ripley (cant read)state aforesaid.
- 4th : I bequeath and give unto my son James the qr. r (cant read) on wh ich I now live during his natural life. :5th : After my wife and my James are dead, I then allow to my son Aaron Patton now living in North CArolina, Bunkam County the Plantation and sole use and possession of forever of which I am now possessed and living on.
- 6th : to my daughter May Long and Elizabeth Patton I give and bequeath one lot in the Township of Madision, Indiana, to said son Aaron I also give one hundred acres of land lying in North Carolina Beetree Creek in the count yof Bunkam in consideration of which he said Aaron is to pay Jane Stafford, daughter of my son Huston at the death of wife Jane one hundred fifty dollars. 6th after the decease of my wife I also allow my personal property to be sold by public sale and the proceeds to be equally dividied amongst all my aforesaid children together and in like manner if there should be any money left after paying all debts and dues to any creditors and redeem.. any land that is yet to pay off, I allow said money to be equally divided between or amongst my children as aforesaid.
- I do hereby authorize appoint and choose John Tirchey of aforesaid 1st named County and STate to be my sole executor of this my last will and Testament in witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 13th dya of October 1824 signed, sealed, and delivered in the presants of us who witness the same at his request.

- The above Will appears in Will Book B, pages 106, 107 and 108, in the office of the Clerk of Jefferson County, Indiana.

- Be it remembered that Personally came before me the undersigned Clerk of the Jefferson Circuit Court John Ritchey who produced the last will and testament of Mathew Patton Dec for profoo, which was duly provved by the oath of William Hamilton and Joseph Wilson who upon oath state that t hey were present when the said Testator signed and that they heard him publish the same to be his last will and testament and that they sadi William Hamilton and Joseph Wilson signed t heir names to said will in presents of the Testator, and it further appearing as specified and set forth in Said will, letters Testamentary with tthe will annexed is thereupon granted in due from of Law, where upon said will is admitted to record.
